L'Amphut - Cahors
Established in 1878, this 14 hectare estate near the village of Fages boasts 70+ year old Malbec vines grown on sidèrolithique (high iron content / orange color) soils. Fifth generation winemaker Sébastien Dauliac is making dark, ripe, sultry wines that are lively yet under-stated.
Almost black in the glass, this is a serious Malbec! A concentrated nose, rich, perfumed and complex, incredible aromas. On the palate, it's almost unexpectedly alive and vibrant, with real driving acidity and very fine tannins. A radical departure from the old-fashioned, over-extracted, over-oaked austere wines of the past, and what a finish. A superb wine showing what the new Cahors is capable of.
